Beverley short listed for Yorkshire business award

June 13th 2008

Beverley is one of nine women in the running for the Business category of the Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards.

Beverley formed Prosperis in 2002 and in the past six years has grown the company from a small start-up to a profitable IFA firm with major growth plans for 2008.

Before starting her own business, Beverley spent 25 years worked for her father’s engineering company, Webster Machine Development Limited, starting in the role of accounts clerk, before being appointed company secretary in 1989 and finally progressing to managing director in 1992.

Beverley was the youngest and first female president of the Association of British Mining Companies (ABMEC), a position she held for six years. In that time she led trade missions to Russia, Japan, Zimbabwe and Iran.

She holds an OBE for services to the coal industry and in 2007 was appointed chair of the advisory board at Sheffield’s Longley Park Sixth Form College, home of one of Yorkshire’s four Career Academies.

Beverley said: “It is fantastic news that I have been short listed for such a celebrated award, considering our region is home to so many successful female entrepreneurs. I’m looking forward to meeting my fellow finalists at the awards ceremony”.

The Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards are open to women with a Yorkshire connection who stand out as a role model and an inspiration to other women. Categories include the Unsung Heroine Award, Education, and the Jane Tomlinson Award for courage and determination in the face of adversity.

Winners will be announced at the Yorkshire Women of Achievement Lunch on Friday 27 June at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
